What an unforgettable evening at the Culinary Institute of America at Copia! Last Saturday, I was honored to moderate a dynamic panel discussion following the screening of Uncorked, alongside four dazzling gentlemen: Prentice Penny, Courtney B. Vance, Mamoudou Athie and Chef Darryl Bell of Stateline Road Smokehouse. The conversation was lively, insightful and filled with the same passion that made Uncorked such a special film.
A heartfelt thank you to the CIA at Copia for the opportunity to be part of their Flavors of Film series, to everyone who attended (especially my Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. sisters and dear friends who came out to support) and to the Association of African American Vintners (AAAV) for showcasing exceptional wines that complemented Darryl’s outstanding BBQ feast. The combination of film, food and wine made for a truly immersive experience.
Since the film’s release five years ago, there has been an exponential growth of Black wine professionals across the country and beyond. Did Uncorked play a role in this growth? Listen to Prentice’s thoughtful answer in the video below.
One of the most memorable moments? After witnessing the love between Prentice, Courtney, and Mamoudou, I suggested an Uncorked 2. Watch the video for their priceless reactions! Stay tuned—maybe Hollywood will take note! And maybe Napa Valley will be the filming location! 🍇🍷🎬)
Later, during dinner, the talk continued—if a sequel were to happen, Napa Valley would be the perfect film location, with its stunning vineyards, world-class wines and a thriving community of Black wine professionals shaping the industry.
This evening was a testament to the power of storytelling, the importance of representation in the wine industry and the joy of bringing people together over shared passions. Looking forward to more conversations that bridge film, food and wine!
