A promotion for Marsha

I thought about blogging about my thoughts on what in the heck qualifies Caroline Kennedy to be my U.S. Senator, other than the fact that she might be able to raise a few pennies for my cash-poor state. But then I got sidetracked with the Iraqi reporter who threw his shoes at President Bush. I wondered how this would affect journalists at press conferences in the future. Will we have to remove our shoes and check them at the door? One of the co-hosts on “The View” said this shoe-throwing practice was done in Italy but I never saw it happen during my two years living in that country. And I can’t see Italians throwing their good Ferragamo loafers at the midget Silvio Berlusconi. For one, he’s so small that he would be hard to hit.

But what prompted me to write today is an e-mail from la mia cara amica Marsha in Beijing telling me that she is the new Asia bureau chief for CBS News! A Black woman running an Asian bureau must be unheard of but I’ll have to do some research. I’m so proud of her. She left her oh-so-fab treehouse in the Hollywood Hills to become CBS News’ Senior Asia producer in the summer of 2006. Her three-year contract was coming to an end and I had no idea if she would stay or go. Now I know! You go girl!

I could always count on Marsha to visit me when I lived in Italy, where we vacationed together in 2001 and had experiences too fantastic for words. (Check her out in this 2004 photo on a boat when she visited me in Positano.) We spent a little time together when I was in Beijing last year but I plan to holiday in Japan next year so we can enjoy some real quality time together. I can’t wait to be shown around Asia by the bureau chief of CBS News!!!
