Napa is the new Italy

Just like orange is the new black and 50 is the new 40, Napa is the new Italy. That's why I've chosen to make California's heralded wine region my new home. Today I moved to Rutherford—home of Cakebread Cellars, St. Supery Vineyards & Winery, Peju, Caymus and other top brands,  including me! I figured if I can't move back to Italy, where I lived from 2003 to 2005, then Napa is the next best thing. I'm nestled between my two fave Napa Valley cities: Yountville, the culinary capital of the … [Read more...]

Eagerly Anticipating The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

After not having a car for the majority of the last 12 years, I'm not into wheels like I used to be. Well, I wasn't. I must say that working on Haute Living San Francisco's July/August issue, which is pegged to Monterey Car Week and the 65th annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance has stirred my interest in cars. Not just any car, classic cars in particular. I'm amazed at these works of art, which is what I realized they are when I went to Petaluma to interview Ana Keller, whose father Arturo … [Read more...]

Motivated by Moderating Bay Area Authors Speak Out

I don't have any time these days to work on my memoir, Bellini for One, but that doesn't mean I don't have time to participate in an authors' event. I recently had the pleasure of moderating Bay Area Authors Speak Out, an annual panel discussion with local authors put on by the San Francisco Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., at the Main Branch of the San Francisco Public Library. This edition was an exciting one with authors Qiana London, Jewelle Taylor Gibbs, Ph.D and Brenda … [Read more...]

Hobnobbing with Kobe Bryant, Margrit Mondavi and Marchese Piero Antinori

The last couple of months have been strange ones for a jetsetter like me. Accustomed to flying often, I traded in my wings for wheels as I made multiple driving trips to Napa to work on the Auction Napa Valley issue of Haute Living and to Monterey County to research the July/August issue pegged to Monterey Car Week and the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Along the way, I encountered boldface names like Kobe Bryant, Marchese Piero Antinori and Margrit Mondavi. … [Read more...]

How ironic it is that living in San Francisco does not require an auto yet, for years, the Bay Area has been a hub for car collectors. Because of the region’s affinity for wheels and our proximity to Pebble Beach, we decided to make this our inaugural Monterey Car Week and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance issue. In August, billionaires and millionaires from around the globe will converge on the Peninsula for the world’s greatest auto show. … [Read more...]

The emptiness of five dogless months

"Where's your dog?" It's a question that's been asked to me quite often in the past five months, ever since my road dog Lucy died suddenly. For nearly 13 years she was like my appendage so, even though we've only been in San Francisco for less than three years, it's still unusual for people to see me without her. Therefore, I understand when people wonder she she is. I'm just sorry for all of the people who I've made feel horrible when I reply, "She died." … [Read more...]

Brit Morin, The Digital Martha Stewart

brit morin

I imagine by now that Brit Morin is tired of being called "The Digital Martha Stewart" but that didn't stop me from doing just that in my Q&A with her that appears in the November/December 2014 issue of Haute Living Magazine San Francisco. I give this woman her props. She had just given birth to her first son yet took the time to do this interview. I'm not sure Martha would have done that. That makes her extra special in my book! Read on to find out more about this do-it-all wonder. … [Read more...]
